EXPERIENCED CIVIL COSTS DRAFTSMAN - SE LONDON
Leading London regional law firm of over 30 years standing is looking for en experienced Civil Costs Draftsman with a minimum of 5 years costing experience, preferably of degree level education and a member of the ALCD.
Role
Drafting bills of costs ranging from smallish legal aid only claims to interpartes claims, to solicitor and client bills.
Negotiating settlement of interpartes costs and accounting for the disbursement of funds received
Attending court assessments.
Preparing breakdowns, schedules and client statements
Working with the IT and Accounts Departments to maximise the firm's utilisation of time recording and accounting software (currently IRIS AIM Evolution), investigating AIM capabilities and making improvements to the firm's procedures where possible
Formulating new streamlined reporting systems and adapting current systems to comply with new legislation and requirements.
Liaising with the LSC
Considering draft guidance for consultation with the LSC on behalf of the firm and the Law Society.
Attending clients on the telephone and in the office and managing their expectations with regard to the costing assessment process.
Liaising with and assisting the accounts department with everyday issues and some assistance with debt recovery proceedings.
Assisting in drafting departmental manual and guidance.
Managing and training current and new junior staff.
Training fee earners on AIM and time recording.
Reporting of Claim 1, 2 and 4 to LSC
Answering day to day questions on funding and costing issues
Person Specification:
At least five years' experience working in a legal costing team. The postholder should have excellent numeracy skills, high attention to detail, management experience and excellent IT skills. The postholder should have a strong commitment to standards of service and a commitment to team working.
