An opportunity has arisen for a senior, experienced energy lawyer to join my client’s Energy team in London and help them drive their growth in the international energy sector, an area in which they have a strong presence.
Your role will chiefly involve downstream UK electricity, gas and coal including energy trading (but some upstream experience will be advantageous). Renewables, biofuels and nuclear generation will play an important part: They occupy a market-leading position in the new carbon market and you can expect to work alongside their carbon finance team. Your work will include advising on projects (power, gas storage, LNG, interconnectors, etc.) and M&A transactions in the energy sector, working closely with corporate finance colleagues. As a senior lawyer, you will help to manage and develop their team of junior energy lawyers.
If your application is successful, they will give you the opportunity to apply your many skills on challenging UK assignments and on international transactions.
You will be UK qualified, have strong academics, with extensive experience in, and knowledge of, the UK energy sector and a willingness to use those skills to grow their business as well as service existing clients. This will include a good understanding of the regulatory environment for the electricity and gas industry in England and Wales, primary and secondary legislation as well as licence conditions and related industry codes. Experience of working in-house in the energy sector will give you an added advantage.
Energy Group
Their energy team is organised as an international business group spanning their global network of offices. The London office contains the core resource for that team. In the London office they service clients who are active in the UK energy market and who use London as their base for international energy projects. They also support our offices on international energy assignments. They combine a strong industry focus with their City credentials in banking and corporate finance, creating a unique platform for lawyers with a real interest in energy.
