Top 55 UK law firm with a national reputation in key commercial and private client services. They have witnessed dramatic growth over the last 5 to 10 years and are determined not to rest on laurels. They continue to have ambitious plans for growth and development in the future and a determination to become the national firm of choice.
A full service firm, they offer advice within all major areas of legal practice including property and construction, corporate and commercial, IT, intellectual property, dispute resolution, employment and health and safety, insolvency, personal injury and private client work.
Their approach is sector specific. This means that the people in their teams are not only excellent lawyers, but are also fully aware of the special requirements of our clients' organisations, as well as the challenges and opportunities currently facing their sectors.
The successful candidate must be a specialist planning lawyer with ideally 4+ years PQE with a solid background in all aspects of planning work including planning applications and appeals, regeneration projects and Section 106 Agreements. Experience of compulsory purchase would be advantageous.
Candidates must be technically excellent but equally important, commercially aware and enthusiastic about business development. They will be a team player and comfortable in supervising the more junior members of the team with a strong client focussed approach. They will also have a strong academic background and excellent communication and organisational skills.
The Planning team has been described as having an 'enviable national reputation' (Legal 500) with a "strong, professional and knowledgeable" team who are primarily recognised for expertise in housing developments, infrastructure and Section 106 agreements (Chambers & Partners 2008). 5 of the team are noted individually for their expertise in planning.
Developers, housebuilders and landowners turn to them for guidance through the intricacies of the planning system. Regeneration projects are a key part of their practice, as are development matters for housebuilders, commercial developers and local authorities.
Demographically the planning team encompasses a broad spectrum and is friendly and collegiate in its approach to work.
The team is involved in a broad spectrum of work covering both contentious and non-contentious planning and environment issues, in particular they have considerable experience in:
§planning applications and appeals;
§planning and highways agreements;
§advocacy at Planning Inquiries;
§enforcement proceedings;
§special statutory procedures and judicial review;
§compulsory purchase;
§environmental impact assessment and environmental statements;
§environmental permit applications and appeals;
§defending environmental prosecutions;
§negotiating environmental warranties and indemnities, audits and due diligence.
