NQ PLANNING SOLICITOR - BRISTOL
Leading Southwest firm is seeking a solicitor 3+ years PQE to join their Planning Unit which gives clients access to all aspects of the planning and compulsory law regime. The post could include support to the firm's Local Government Team on local government law if the applicant is suitably experienced and enthusiastic.
The team comprises eight dedicated Planning Solicitors and according to Chambers Guide to the Legal Profession, "….nobody doubts its regional and national planning muscle".
The team have excellent contacts with planning consultants and other expert assistance which may be required and have particular strengths in regeneration, mixed use, renewable energy, nuclear, minerals and waste, telecoms, housing, compulsory purchase and planning advocacy. Members of the Planning Unit write and lecture extensively on a range of topics. Members of the team are Legal Associates of the Royal Town and Country Planning Institute and members of the Law Society's Planning Panel of recommended experts. Three members of the team are qualified High Court advocates.
Work Projects recently include:
· Advising on city centre redevelopment projects in Truro and West Bromwich
· Advising NDA on nuclear waste disposal.
· Advising Orange and Hutchison 3G on the construction of their third generation national telecoms networks.
· Advising National Trust, English Heritage and Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, on planning projects.
· Advising on a S36 Electricity Act application to the DTI for consent to build a 66MW wind farm in Devon.
· Advising East Devon District Council on its major projects, including Cranbrook (3000 + dwelling new settlement), an Intermodal freight facility and a prestigious new business park.
The successful candidate will enjoy a varied workload and have the opportunity to do their own advocacy.
Requirements
In an application, the firm looks for a proven academic record, coupled with good quality planning experience a minimum of 6 months relevant experience will be expected from newly qualified solicitors. Applications are welcomed from candidates working in both private practice and Local Government.
