Job Description

With 40 partners and over 100 fee earners, my client is one of the largest practices in the south and a top 120 law firm.

Their employment team is highly regarded and has extensive experience in all areas of contentious and non-contentious law, with advice extending to the broader issues of training and strategic HR consultancy and advice. The team has exclusive arrangements with a number of PLCs as well as smaller companies, in respect of employment advice and recently advised on employment aspects and issues arising from bringing together two major international tour operators with a total of 19,000 employees.

Due to continued growth, they now have a vacancy for an exceptional employment solicitor to join their existing team, which currently consists of four other lawyers.

 This role will give you full responsibility and opportunity to manage your own workload and client relationships. Whilst support will be there from the three Partners in the team, you will be allowed to manage your own files and work with others in the team to delivery commercial solutions to clients.

Specifically you will be expected to:

  • Lead client meetings, taking full instructions, advising as appropriate and working with clients to develop strategies and solutions to their issues
  • Manage a Tribunal caseload from beginning to end including drafting of ET1s and ET3s; document analysis and assembly; taking and drafting witness statements; negotiating settlements where appropriate; handling Case Management Discussions and Pre-Hearing Reviews; attending Tribunal hearings
  • Develop strong links with other teams in the Firm to encourage the cross-referral of work between teams and supporting in particular the Corporate Finance team on transactional work
  • Participating in tribunal work; organising files and preparing lists of documents
  • Undertaking research as required; reading up on case law and providing legislative updates
  • Produce your own correspondence and draft documentation
  • Organise your workload to ensure correct prioritization
  • Provide input into business development activities including attendance at networking events, in house seminars and preparing seminar materials and articles for publication

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience of Employment work, ideally 3 years post qualification experience
  • Worked as part of an Employment law team post qualification managing your own caseload
  • The desire to develop and strengthen the Employment team's brand as the best employment offering in the South East
  • Excellent organisational skills; the ability to work well under pressure and handle a number of work priorities with limited supervision at times
  • A clear ability to manage clients for profit
  • A good eye for detail, presentation and overall high work standards
  • Excellent client care skills
  • A committed, keen and hard working attitude
  • The ability to work as part of a team showing respect for and support to all your colleagues
  • The desire to learn and develop your skills and expertise
  • Solid IT skills with a good working knowledge of Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Experience of working a case management system would also be desirable
