Job Description

COUNCIL LITIGATION SOLICITOR - DERBYSHIRE

Local council require litigation Solicitor to join team. Will look at all levels of solicitor with the required experience. Within the Litigation Section their role will be to participate in and contribute to the provision of an effective and efficient legal service to the Council, its departments, elected members, officers and external organisations.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Jointly with the Solicitor (Civil Litigation), responsibility for the conduct of employment law matters.
2.Under the supervision of the Principal Solicitor, to assist the other solicitors in the section within their areas of practice as and when appropriate;
3. Act as advocate before courts and tribunals.
4.Attend Committees and Executive meetings of the Council as required to give legal, procedural and related advice.
5. Prepare and present reports to Committees and working groups
6.Provide an appropriate level of professional guidance and advice to officers, elected members and multi-disciplinary groups.
7.Contribute to the efficient and effective operation of the Litigation Section including:
·maintaining proper records, systems and statistics
·reviewing, developing and introducing work systems and procedures
·staff guidance and training.
8.Participate in the development and operation of the Legal Division as a business unit including:
·development, implementation and operation of Service Level Agreements
·implementation and operation of information technology and effective information systems.
9.Comply with the Council's standing orders, financial regulations and departmental instructions.
10.Comply with the Customer Care Code.
11. Participate in the Council's Achievement and Development Scheme.
12. Act as Deputy Returning Officer or Presiding Officer at elections as required.
13. Adhere to Council policies relating to equalities and environmental issues.
