EMPLOYMENT PROFESSIONAL SUPPORT LAWYER - LONDON CITY Leading London healthcare law firm acting for over 150 healthcare clients, including NHS Trusts and Health Authorities, regulatory bodies, charities and independent healthcare providers is looking for an Employment PSL 3 + PQE to join team. The Employment department comprises of 21 fee earners and, as the UK's leading supplier of employment law services to NHS bodies, carries out work for around 100 healthcare bodies throughout the UK. The department is able to provide legal advice and training on the full range of employment law issues, from board level to generalist HR practitioner, and has a reputation for handling the most sensitive and high-profile employment law cases. The role The Employment department has recently identified a need to appoint a Professional Support Lawyer to · lead, manage and develop the department's professional support function · have overall responsibility for the maintenance of the practice's know-how bank and systems/ procedures · ensure that materials remain relevant and up to date · deal with lawyers' queries · assist them in finding the information they require. This is a new role which will involve working closely with the fee earners in the department and the firm's information services team. Key areas of responsibility will include: Know how · determine what know-how individual lawyers in the office hold and centralise this; · review know how content to ensure it is up to date and set up and maintain a know how database that is indexed logically and consistently; · set up a system that enables the orderly and regular accumulation of know-how and precedents on a department wide basis, to be made available to all legal staff; · review and categorise lawyers' contributions to the know-how bank and index the materials on the know how database; · train members of the office on the use of the know-how bank and run refresher courses; and · establish the department's needs for standard form documents and practice notes and draft the required documents. Current awareness · in conjunction with information services, review legal and commercial journals and other external materials and extract information likely to be of significance to the practice's lawyers and clients; · alert the practice's lawyers to legal, regulatory and commercial developments in their specialist areas; and · assist and advise on particular legal issues and research of "non-routine" and complex legal issues arising from client work. Marketing and business development · assist with client updates and newsletters, to include reviewing and researching particular legal topics and drafting updates and newsletters; and · assist lawyers in the production of journal articles, conference speeches and training sessions. Training · in conjunction with the partner responsible for training, identify suitable topics for the department's internal training programme and coordinate the programme arrangements, to include delivery where appropriate; · determine what internal and external training materials individual lawyers in the office hold and centralise this; · review training content to ensure it is up to date and set up and maintain a training section within the know how database; · set up a system that enables the orderly and regular accumulation of training materials, to be made available to all legal staff. General · ensure the professional support function maintains a high profile within the practice; · develop the professional support function's presence and contribution to the firm's on line legal information services; and · any other duties as reasonably allocated by the partners in the department.
