Job Description

Exciting Opportunity for a Legal Secretary to join the Employment Rights group within a countrywide firm of solicitors based in their Bristol office. Offering a salary in excess of £17,500 + excellent benefits. Job Purpose: Performs a full secretarial function within the Equal Pay Team. In addition to sound secretarial skills, including the ability to communicate clearly and effectively, this position requires a good understanding of the procedures of the department, the team and the firm as a whole, together with an ability to make appropriate decisions to organise and plan work, and use the equipment provided to the highest standard. LIST OF REPRESENTATIVE ACTIVITIES Transcribes machine dictation and types up a range of standardised documentation and correspondence using both legal and routine vocabulary, adjusting spelling, punctuation and grammar as appropriate. Types standard letters and composes letters on routine matters such as payment of fee notes which do not require the executives attention. Performs all the activities referred to in the firm's case processing blue print, and has a good working knowledge of Vectus and/or TCMS as appropriate. Screens telephone calls, answering routine questions, taking messages and/or referring callers to appropriate sources. Maintains the diary, arranges appointments, meetings, travel and accommodation as required. Receives and assesses incoming mail, making diary entries as necessary in accordance with systems and procedures. Receives and assesses all incoming material into the department, dispersing material as appropriate and undertaking any necessary information collation and filing. Maintains filing and/or record systems. Performs routine file finishing activities including the preparation of VAT invoices and bills. Undertakes a variety of administrative routines without supervision in order to ensure the smooth running of the department/team. Liaises with clients and carries out basic interviewing from time to time as necessary. Undertakes data entry in relation to TCMS. Performs all other activities including assisting with opening of the post, folding of letters, costs breakdowns and other work generally within the office or as required by the managing partner/office manager/team manager. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 1 years legal secretarial experience with audio speeds in excess of 50wpm. Ideally from a commercial, employment or corporate background but other areas of law will be considered. Hours of Work 9-5 with one hour for lunch each day, 1 1/2 hour lunch on a Friday so works a 34 1/2 hour week. Holiday: 23 days per year Pension: 5% to be paid by employee and company pay 6% in. Christmas Shutdown: e.g this year they finish 4pm Christmas Eve and re-open Monday 5th January 2009. This is in addition to your holiday entitlement.
