A locum solicitor is urgently required to work with one of the nations leading Judicial Review Teams.
This is a temporary role, with an immediate start and 11 months in length.The role is diverse with much of the work dealing with vulnerable people, mental illness, child protection and others.
Lawyers are responsible for conducting their own allocated casework under the supervision of a more senior lawyer.
They will be required to give prompt legal and practical advice to the client at all stages of the proceedings, to instruct Counsel as appropriate and to work to tight deadlines while remaining alert to wider policy issues.
We are looking for bright, adaptable candidate with transferable skills who can learn quickly. The work requires good legal and organisational skills and the ability to work under pressure.
It is often necessary to adapt existing working practices to meet new legislative or procedural initiatives so flexibility is essential. IT and word processing skills are also required.
This role is paying £15.50 to £19.26 per hour and going for up to 11 months.
Criteria:
· UK litigation experience
· Public Law/Judicial Review experience, must be familiar with public law concepts and procedures.
· Experience with tribunial work. Must have a good understanding of how tribunials work
· Evidence of relevant work experience, i.e. working in own right, whether casework or transactional, with direct client contact. Evidence supporting an ability to absorb complex areas of law efficiently and effectively, to work under pressure and to use initiative.
· If UK qualified we would be looking for an interest in public law /policy.
· If non-UK qualified to have worked in Government within own jurisdiction would be advantageous and an understanding of the wider policy context.
