Our client is a large local authority based in Greater Manchester who are looking to appoint an interim Assistant Borough Solicitor and Deputy Monitoring Officer whilst they recruit a permanent incumbent. The successful individual's responsibilities will include:
1. Managing Legal Services to ensure that efficient and cost-effective services are provided.
2. Motivating and leading staff within Legal Services to enable the delivery of a modern, competitive service and demonstrate continuous improvement.
3. Responsibility for legal work within Legal Services.
4. Acting as a legal representative for the Council and to provide advice and guidance to elected Council Members and to Officers.
5. Acting as the Council's Deputy Monitoring Officer.
The ideal candidate will come from a strong public sector background, preferably with previous experience of undertaking a Head of Legal position. As a bare minimum, a comprehensive knowledge of the range of legal issues facing local authorities is essential. The ability to start at relatively short notice would be beneficial, but it is of greater importance for the council to appoint the right individual. This is an excellent opportunity for a locum to become involved in a wide variety of interesting work for a minimum of 6 months.
