A Legal Services Manager role in the Refugee Legal Centre based in Central London
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Legal Services Manager to join the Refugee Legal Centre, a critically important charity dedicated to securing justice for refugees and migrants in the UK.
The Legal Services Manager will have overall responsibility for the management and delivery of a range of legal services to the Refugee Legal Centre and its clients. Your role will include:
- Operational leadership, management and supervision of 15 to 20 group members comprising the Legal Officer, the Litigation Solicitor and Research and Information Teams
- Management of research and dissemination of legal information to ensure that the organisation is kept abreast of legal developments in the field
- Managing and delivering initial training and continuing professional development of legal staff
- The supervision of legal casework
- Ensuring that the teams' work meets the standards of the Refugee Legal Centre, The Legal Services Commission, the Specialist Quality Mark and the Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner
- Formulating and monitoring operational and business plans in conjunction with Team Leader
- Effective liaison and communication with the Head of Policy and Communications the Operational Regional Managers to ensure delivery of the Refugee Legal Centre's strategic and business plan goals.
You will be a qualified solicitor or barrister with experience of developing, implementing and leading an organisational casework strategy. You will have proven ability in managing high performance teams and the provision of legal guidance and training. You will have previously dealt with Legal Service Commission contracts or similarly funded casework services and may be accredited to Level 2 or Level 3 of the Solicitors Regulation Authority's Immigration and Asylum Accreditation Scheme. You will be proactive and energetic and have the initiative to develop and deliver new policies that can lead to service, organisational and business improvements. You will have experience of organisational change programmes.
The Refugee Legal Centre is a leading charity devoted to providing high quality legal representation to people seeking refuge in the United Kingdom. Originally established in 1992, the Refugee Legal Centre has around 250 staff nationwide working though casework, cutting edge litigation, and campaigning in the area of asylum and immigration. The Refugee Legal Centre was awarded the Law Society, Liberty and Justice 2005 Human Rights Award. With a new Executive Board and a revised strategic legal and policy framework in place since the start of 2008, the Refugee Legal Centre is at an important point in its development and this role represents an excellent opportunity to engage at the forefront of asylum and immigration work and really make a difference.
