This In House role in Oxford offers a fantastic opportunity to work for a global company that is a leader in its industry. Working within a global team of 30 lawyers you will be part of a team of 5 Lawyers in Europe that report to the Chief Counsel for EMEA.
The successful candidate will be given the opportunity to contribute to this business through the practical application of the law and by providing focused and pragmatic advice on a range of matters.
The legal function at Nielsen advises the business and its subsidiary companies on a wide range of matters. The team comprises approximately 30 lawyers globally, and a number of support staff. The team in Europe consists of 5 lawyers.
The post is for a lawyer to provide focused and pragmatic advice to the business across the EMEA region. The role will report into the Chief Counsel for EMEA who is based in Oxford. The successful candidate will be required to contribute to the business through the practical application of the law, with a focus on the negotiation of commercial contracts. You will also be required to advise on ad hoc matters and manage external lawyers providing advice in the appropriate jurisdiction. In particular, the key duties will be:
Training and educating local country teams on legal issues and standard contracts and policies;
Giving professional advice and assistance in the drafting and negotiation of information and software licence agreements, IT contracts, supplier agreements, consultancy agreements, confidential disclosure agreements and other miscellaneous contracts;
Assisting with ad hoc corporate matters, competition law, data protection (privacy), litigation issues and instructing outside counsel where necessary;
Reviewing the current portfolio of licences and other agreements together with the suite of standard form documents in order to ensure continuing compliance with the current regulatory regime;
Advising on the contract processes both from the point of view of efficiency and compliance procedures;
As part of the legal team you will provide the business with information concerning relevant developments in the law and the impact of such development on the business.
This role will require the post holder to travel internationally on a regular basis (once or twice per month on average, for 2 to 3 days at a time).

Our client is looking for the following:
A qualified UK solicitor (or equivalent professional qualification) with strong experience of commercial law from a private practice or in house legal department;
Knowledge and experience of intellectual property law, privacy / data protection and competition law will be a distinct advantage; and
Fluency in English is a requirement and a good level of competency in a second language will be an advantage in being considered for the role.
