Job Description

CONSTRUCTION SOLICITOR - SOUTH WALES

Dynamic UK law firm committed to providing the highest quality legal services and commercially focused advice from offices in South Wales and southern England, seeks Construction Solicitor 3 years + PQE to join team.

The relevant person will assist the team to grow the firm's construction practice in Wales and England. They are looking for someone with construction law expertise who may have specialised primarily in contentious construction but has had some experience (albeit limited) in non-contentious work and therefore be able to assist where required with the mix of work. Candidates with experience in contentious work only are encouraged to apply.

The position being based in one office but it may involve some part time working in our other offices from time to time to service our client's needs and therefore the candidate's base has some flexibility. The construction team is based within the commercial practice area. The commercial practice area operates as one team across the Thames Valley and South Wales, so there will also be occasional trips to Thames Valley to liaise and integrate with, and from time to time assist, the construction team there.

The role will involve:-
· Working closely with the partner heading up our contentious practise.
· Dealing with construction related disputes across the myriad of dispute resolution methods. Candidates should have a mixture of experience of advising in the myriad of dispute resolution methods including statutory adjudication, mediation, expert determination, litigation and arbitration.
· The sectors in which we are instructed in relation to contentious work vary from straightforward development work and JCT contracts, to complicated engineering projects using contracts such as IChem, FIDIC, ICE, NEC and bespoke project contracts
· Helping to develop our construction practice in Wales and England and in particular increasing our Contractor/specialist sub-contractor client base.
· Candidates must be keen to participate in marketing and business development. The team is very active in the South Wales market in particular supporting a number of initiatives including Young Professionals in construction, Constructing Excellence (Wales and South West), Last Thursday club (Wales) , a range of annual dinners and award evenings for various building/engineering institutes.
· Supporting, with construction and development advice, commercial property transactions, including advising banks on funding development projects.

The position is Full-time (35 hours per week), but the firm will always consider flexibility on hours wherever possible.
This is an excellent opportunity to work with a high profile construction partner in the South Wales market and participate in the growth of the team in Wales, the South West and Thames Valley.
