Role Profile and Job Description
Purpose of Role
The Executive Lawyer role is an important role within our Legal Services structure and is pivotal to realising the
operating rhythm described by our ONEON™ model.
Executive Lawyers will be qualified in their area of expertise and will manage higher fee earning targets to contribute
to the fee earning potential for their Practice Area. Therefore, managing a cash and fees target is a requirement of the
role whilst also being able to adjust to multiple demands and shifting priorities. Executive Lawyers will demonstrate a
high level of expertise relating to their Practice Area and will provide Lawyers with advice if requested. The Executive
Lawyer may seek further advice from an Associate when it is appropriate to do so.
The role requires a robust knowledge of the Legal Services industry along with experience managing portfolio and case
management activities. This Executive Lawyer will undertake work that is moderately complex to complex in nature
and operates under limited direction. They are accountable for organising their workflow and making independent
decisions relating to an area of responsibility. As an Executive Lawyer of the firm, it will be necessary to follow and
comply with all pre-defined case management practices and procedures, including those specifically relating to the
compliance obligations of the SRA, Lexcel and any other regulatory bodies relating to the Practice Area.
Executive Lawyers provide advice within an area of specialism with advice based on policy and legislation. They
undertake specialist or technical research and analysis, conduct investigations, and demonstrate effective delegation
of procedural, clerical, and administrative tasks to Legal Assistants or Legal Secretaries as appropriate.
Executive Lawyers may have a considerable public contact role and may be required to communicate with and provide
advice to a wide variety of internal and external customers. Executive Lawyers demonstrate excellent communication
skills and the ability to deliver timely, accurate and professional services. They are on the front-line of Customer
communications and as such, must set an example to other staff in the delivery of excellent Customer Service and the
understanding of their Customer’s needs.
Executive Lawyers must work well independently and be self motivated, but also work well as a member of a wider
team to contribute to the Practice Area goals. The role requires the ability to relate to others in a positive manner and
build strong working relationships.
The role contributes to the success of Legal Services and therefore aligns to the overall corporate strategy and sector
plans, helping to meet the legal requirements within the Practice Area.
The Legal Services structure consists of three Sectors;
 Corporate Sector
 Property Sector
 Private Client Sector
Executive Lawyers within the Practice Area report into the Associate (MD), Senior Associate (MD) or Head of Practice
Area dependant on the size and make-up of the specific Practice Area. The Associate or Senior Associate reports to
the Head of Practice Area. The Head of Practice Area reports into the Director of Legal Services.
Band and Salary
Further information on salary bandings and salary brackets will be provided by HR in due course. Placement within the
salary bracket is dependent on a range of criteria which will be discussed on an individual basis.

processes. Participates in any business continuity exercises. Practices risk management and
mitigation. Monitors and ensures that any compliance related tasks delegated to Lawyers are
completed satisfactorily and in timely fashion.
Finance, Client Money & Stability – Responsible for adhering to all team financial and client
money risk management practices and processes. Supports others in understanding of
policies. May help train new starters.
Client & Matter Care – Responsible for adhering to all client and matter care policies. Has a
role to play in customer complaint management (TBC) and adheres to complaint handling
strategy and processes. Participates and manages own file reviews as directed. Ensures good
file hygiene and attends risk and compliance training.
Statutory & Professional – Responsible for adhering to the team’s statutory and professional
obligations. AML, Data Protection, Health & Safety, HMRC compliance, HMLR compliance,
SRA, SAR, Quality marks (IIP, Lexcel), other registrations (CQS), Legal Aid, other regulators
(BSB, CILEX, CLC, FCA), LeO.
