In house Solicitor
We are currently instructed on an in house role with a major global firm that is looking to add an experienced solicitor to join its in-house legal function from its northern powerhouse office in Manchester.
This In-house legal and regulatory role sits as part of the risk and compliance team and is a great option for lawyers who are technically strong and commercially minded, still looking for a dynamic and fast-paced environment but wanting to get away from time-recording and relentless business development.
The risk and compliance team in Manchester deals with a broad range of work, including SRA compliance, FCA compliance, a range of sector-specific regulatory compliance for example Office of Nuclear Data, data protection, modern slavery, market abuse regulation, financial crime and money laundering.
They provide regular strategic advice on these areas to a range of client-facing teams within the business as well as looking after the firm's own regulatory responsibilities. There is also the opportunity to get involved in major multi-jurisdictional projects for which strong technical legal skills are key. This is very much an in-house legal rather than operational role.
This is a friendly close-knit team, that works well together and provides invaluable technical legal support across UK and international offices (not US).
The role will suit a technically strong, service-focussed and dynamic solicitor with around two to six years' PQE, preferably in a non-contentious commercial, corporate or regulatory role at the moment, as the team's backgrounds are predominantly litigation based and they are looking to balance this out with non-contentious expertise. Specific risk and compliance experience will obviously be very much welcomed but is not essential. Solid academics and strong technical skills are the prerequisite here and you will be dealing with challenging and high quality work.
The team is also particularly interested in hearing from applicants with financial services experience, either gained in private practice or with a financial institution.
No two days are the same, there is a huge amount of variety and everyone gets involved in the BAU work but on top of this, there is the opportunity to carve out your own niche within the team, whether that's financial crime, data protection or IT compliance issues.
The firm offers a top tier top market rate salary & benefits for this role, as well as a discretionary bonus scheme, and the opportunity for progression within the knowledge and risk team.
