London or Oxford or Cardiff
Lewis Silkin is a UK top-100 commercial law firm with offices in London, Oxford, Cardiff and Hong Kong. The firm is recognised by clients and industries alike as being distinct: for its deep understanding, insight and advice to creative, innovative and brand-focused businesses; for its market-leading international practice in employment, immigration and reward; and for delivering pragmatic, commercial advice in a refreshingly human way.
With 56 partners and more than 300 staff, the firm is structured around two key divisions; Employment, Immigration and Reward, and Creators, Makers and Innovators.
The Employment, Immigration and Reward team is consistently top-ranked, and was named HR Law Firm of the Year 2015 by the Legal 500. With around 100 lawyers, Lewis Silkin’s employment and immigration team offers an unrivalled service supporting clients, including many of the world’s leading businesses, on their HR, employment and immigration law needs domestically and internationally.
The Creators, Makers and Innovators team is made up of leading advisers for creative, innovative and brand-focused businesses, offering a deep understanding of the industry sectors in which clients operate combined with real expertise across a wide range of legal services. From start-ups to multinationals, the firm’s comprehensive and commercially focused advice helps clients succeed in an increasingly complex and converged international marketplace.
The employment team of Lewis Silkin is one of the leading employment law practices both domestically and internationally. Our team is amongst the largest in the UK with 19 employment / immigration partners and around 100 other specialist lawyers. Consistently top ranked by independent legal directories, we have more recognised experts in employment than any other UK firm. The majority of our lawyers are based at our London office in Chancery Lane but we also have offices in Oxford, Cardiff, Hong Kong and other lawyers who work remotely.
The work of the team as a whole is a mix of contentious and non-contentious matters, for a wide range of clients. The lawyers undertake a significant amount of business development including giving seminars and producing Lewis Silkin branded publications. There is a significant international element to the Division’s work, largely on account of its membership of the Ius Laboris international alliance of employment lawyers.
Incentives and immigration work is handled by specialists within the Division and this will therefore not form part of the role.
The Associate’s workload will be exclusively employment work with a focus on workplace data privacy. The associate will mainly be assisting senior associates and partners with their cases, as well as running his or her own matters. The caseload will consist of a mix of contentious and non-contentious employment work and the associate will have direct contact with a variety of clients.
While the Associate will be undertaking a range of employment work, there will be a focus on workplace data privacy, including:
Drafting, reviewing and amending a range of Privacy / Data Protection documentation
Advising clients on a variety of Privacy and Data Protection matters as well as data privacy policies/notices
Dealing with data subject access requests
Assisting with data protection/privacy audits and extra-EEA data transfers
Helping clients update their data protection/privacy practices in light of changes required owing to the forthcoming General Data Protection Regulation

We have practice development lawyers who are responsible for knowledge and precedents within the division. There will be career development opportunities and the successful candidate will be allocated a Career Development Partner (CDP) who will have an overview of their long term career development.
The successful candidate is likely to have 1-4 years pqe with excellent academics, and to have gained the benefit of training and development in a well respected firm.
