Job title: Assistant Legal Cashier
Office: Peterborough

We are looking for a proactive Assistant Legal Cashier to join our busy Accounts team in Peterborough. The role is to assist and cover the Senior Cashier in the provision of in-house financial administrative support needed to deliver seamless legal services to clients. The ideal candidate will be familiar with accounting and banking procedures in a busy work environment; direct experience within a Solicitor’s practice will be an advantage. The candidate must have a can-do attitude, excellent organisational skills, work well as part of a team and have a solutions-focused approach. There will be a requirement for a high standard of accuracy, delivering in a timely manner, maintaining strict financial controls and ensuring adherence with the office manual.

Accountabilities

Cover various duties as agreed by the Senior Legal Cashier, including specifically:

* Online banking
* Posting financial transactions to the accounting systems including fee and disbursement invoices, and transfers of client money
* Raising payments (cheques, BACS and CHAPS), posting receipts & banking, petty cash & expenses
* Receiving card payments from clients
* Reconciliations and reports
* Finance email log & requests
* Producing accounting reports and client statements
* Providing an online banking service to service client receipts and payments and other business transactions
* Track money received and sent during the day, and liaise with the bank where required
* Load and maintain data on completions database. Check accuracy of data and obtain authorisations, and provide timely updates to fee earners for all money transactions
* End-of-day reconciliation and checking of balances
* To be proficient in the use of the accounting systems, SOS case management system, banking system
* Assisting with general administration duties such as post opening, enquiries on reception, taking overflow calls on telephone
* All written communication to be clear, concise and accurate
* To provide general assistance in the absence of other team members, this is to include holiday and sickness cover
* To possess a flexible approach in providing support to other teams dependent upon capacity

Qualifications

* Relevant professional qualification or relevant business experience

Skills/experience

* Legal cashier experience an advantage but not a prerequisite
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Working knowledge of accounts management systems and Microsoft Office applications

Personal attributes

* A strong team player with a motivational hands-on approach
* Uses initiative, plans and organises own time and workload so as to meet deadlines and prioritises work
* Ability to establish and maintain good client relationships, both internally and externally at all levels
* Ability to reconcile accounts and have excellent attention to detail
* Competence in Microsoft Office products, XL and accounting software programmes
